SIZZLING Stourport threw the Worcestershire Saturday League Division Two title race wide open with a 47-run win at leaders Evesham.

The Wyre Forest side are now second in the table, just one point behind Saturday's opponents who had only lost once previous match.

There are at least three other teams, including Bewdley, within touching distance of the top.

In Saturday's big county derby, Stourport were asked to bat first on a green wicket but that did not stop Bryan Colley (36) and Tom Gloster (22).

The duo posted the team's first half-century opening partnership of the campaign before Phil Williams smashed 37 runs, including four massive sixes.

Ian Delo (28) provided solid support but it took a late onslaught from skipper Bevan Neill (32 not out) to help Stourport register 200-plus for the first time this season.

Chasing 202, Evesham batted aggressively in reply and the competitive nature of the game soon spilled over as tempers on both sides frayed.

Andy Platt (4-47) kept his cool as the home side lost wickets at regular intervals.

Delo conjured a crucial run-out and then despite some mighty hits from Iqbal, he joined Neill in capturing two late scalps to condemn Evesham to a rare defeat.

Stourport 201-7, Evesham 154.

The high-flying seconds overcame Evesham by four wickets at Walshes Meadow.

The visitors posted an impressive 248-7 with Bob Pittaway taking 3-39 and Chris Humphreys chipping in with two wickets.

Stourport slumped to 40-3 before John Shackleton continued his irrepressible form with a superbly crafted 120.

Martin Brewer contributed 38 but it was left to the experienced Pittaway to guide Stourport home with 20 not out.

Evesham 248-7, Stourport 249-6.
