A BROADWAY family of five will be freewheeling in France to gear themselves up for a charity cycling event.

The Halls, from Mills Close, will be getting on their bikes for Cycle For Life at Lydiard Park in Swindon on Sunday, July 28, for a 30-kilometre ride to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

As part of their rigorous training regime, the family members have decided to test their pedal power (and stamina) on the roads of Auvergne.

Susie and her husband, Simon, the roadside mechanic, will be riding on a tandem with four-year-old son, Tom, on a tagalong at the back of the bike.

Eleven-year-old Anna, and her sister, Emily, aged 8, will ride their own bicycles in the event.

The Halls got into cycling when they hired a tandem while holidaying in the Lake District about six years ago.

They decided to enter after Anna brought home some information about the cancer charity after she competed in its Race For Life event at Cheltenham Racecourse last year.

Susie said: "We've been training every weekend with routes of about 25 miles and we recently completed a 40-mile cycle ride in Wales."
