Intruders escaped empty-handed when they broke into a Mappleborough Green pub in the early hours of Monday, July 1.
Police are now studying CCTV footage of the attempted theft, which happened just before 1.30am at the Dog Inn, Henley Road.
It is believed the intruders broke in to target the games machines - but they had already been emptied of cash.
