REGARDING the letter from Councillor Mary Drinkwater (You Say, June 27), I resent the suggestion that I am intimidating anybody. Nonsense - I am too old and decrepit to harm anybody.

Apparently, I did misread a report in the Evening News concerning applications to set up a dental surgery.

Evidently, no application concerning Barbourne has been made. But two have been in regard to Beech Avenue, in the second of which the applicant endeavoured to be as accommodating as possible.

I'm sorry but, when this councillor is as old and decrepit as me, perhaps she will make a few mistakes.

Anyway, I could understand the residents of this road objecting to a great factory in their midst, but it's pettiness to complain about a facility most parts of town would welcome.

n ESSO has denied the link between oil and climate change.

In fact, it says science isn't able to confirm that fossil fuel use has led to any significant global warming.

However, the world's most reputable scientists do not agree with them.

Meanwhile, Esso continues to make empty gestures towards climate change.

n SUMMER'S here - or what passes for a summer - and that means idiots in pleasure craft have started speeding up the Severn once again.

When will British Waterways start doing something about these water hogs?
