A NEW file on missing estate agent Suzy Lamplugh has been submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Scotland Yard revealed the breakthrough on Friday to the delight of Miss Lamplugh's relatives.

The 25-year-old was last seen in July 1986, after going to show a Mr Kipper a house in Fulham, West London.

Her body has never been found, despite a massive police search, including at Norton Barracks, near Worcester.

Police first combed the 55-acre former Worcestershire & Sherwood Foresters Regiment site 10 years ago following a tip-off.

In December 2000, a 30-strong team of officers and forensic scientists returned for a five-day fingertip search, but found nothing.

They returned in February last year to trawl areas that flooded in December 2000, but that also found nothing.

Miss Lamplugh, of East Sheen, south west London, was formally declared dead in 1994.

"We're delighted that the case is moving forward and would like to thank the police for all their hard work," her family said in a statement.

"The case has remained unsolved for 15 years and we feel confident that we are getting closer to knowing what happened to Suzy."

Scotland Yard said no one had been arrested or charged, but the move has been billed a significant step towards a prosecution.

CPS lawyers will now assess whether they think there is enough evidence for prosecuting a suspect.

The Lamplugh investigation has so far examined thousands of lines of inquiry and case files run to more than one million words.
