I MUST congratulate the loyal people in the suburbs of Worcester who must have worked very hard to celebrate the Golden Jubilee. It was obvious they all enjoyed themselves and the weather was kind too. Well done.

But I'm afraid I can't say the same for the city centre. I was very disappointed and ashamed to see the Faithful City flagless.

Two large High Street stores had four bare flagpoles on their roof. What a disgrace.

Even the Guildhall was flying the flag of St George when it should have been the Union Jack or both. We are celebrating the Queen's Jubilee not the World Cup.

If I'd known the council could not afford the appropriate flag, I'd have gladly given them one of ours. We had more flags flying in our front garden (four) than we saw in the whole of the city centre.

Anyway, we have Christmas to look forward to and the ancient and drab Christmas lights. However, the powers-that-be may surprise us, but I doubt it.

They would rather grant themselves planning permission and spend our money on what they want, not what the citizens would like to see.

D H BRADLEY, Worcester.
