PRINCE Henry's High School, Evesham, has won a prestigious Artsmark Silver Award which recognises schools that demonstrate a commitment to providing opportunities across the arts from drama to music, design to literature, dance to sculpture.

The scheme also encourages schools to work in partnership with artists and arts organisations.

Headteacher Bernard Roberts said: "We are all delighted that the outstanding arts provision at Prince Henry's has been recognised in this way. The school is at a very exciting stage of development. In September students will enjoy new facilities for the performing arts with the completion of a drama studio to complement the on-site theatre, and a new music suite, both equipped with the state of the art technology."

Mr Roberts said the school's talented A level art students were currently exhibiting at Worcester Cathedral for the second time this year, work produced under the guidance of artist is residence David Gunning, and the orchestra, musical ensembles and A level theatre studies students would be performing at the school's annual summer concert on June 27.

"This will be a marvellous celebration of the achievement of our talented students and the commitment of staff which has contributed to the school achieving this prestigious award," he said.

Other Vale schools to receive Artsmark awards include St Nicholas's Middle School in Pinvin, Blackminster Middle School and Evesham High School.
