FURTHER to Councillor Gittins' letter (Shuttle/Times & News, June 6), I was one of the two people on Bewdley bridge who urged residents to vote on traffic calming.

We selected that location because the road works had slowed traffic to a crawl and safety was paramount to us.

The roadworks sign slightly intruded onto the road, but our placard did not increase this intrusion. There were no complaints from motorists.

We were careful to make way for pedestrians. We only slipped up once and I apologised to the lady concerned. In two hours we had almost total support.

At 6am on voting day I erected six free-standing placards, two on Park Lane, two on Cleobury Road and two on Wyre Hill. I removed them at 7am the next day.

Surely we should now be working together to find a way to provide the road safety scheme that Bewdley residents want and need.
