IN reply to Councillor Gittins' letter on Bewdley traffic calming (Shuttle Times & News, June 6), I am the person who erected posters and signs on the bank in front of my own property on Bark Hill.

I also stood on Bewdley bridge, informing motorists that the poll was that day.

Yes, the hollow is dangerous without a footpath and surely some of the £223,000 for the county council scheme could be used to create one.

I remind readers of two things. At a packed public meeting 90 per cent voted against the scheme. In the referendum for the whole of Bewdley, 80 per cent voted against it.

This is becoming something far more important than an argument over road humps.

Do we live in a democracy where the will of the people prevails, or do we live in the land of "Big Brother" where us poor stupid "proles" are told by unelected council officials what is good for us?

By the way, not one penny of this £223,000 scheme is being spent on calming traffic on the "very dangerous" (Mr Gittins' words) Bark Hill.
