MAGISTRATES have called for a psychiatrist's report on a driver who broke through the gate of a playground with his van, then assaulted a policeman.

Adrian McGinley, 28, of Wilden Lane, Stourport, admitted driving the van with excess alcohol in his system, having no insurance and assaulting a police officer.

He had been drinking cider before he broke open the gate of the playground, said John Barnett, prosecuting at Kidder-minster.

He drove the van round the play area, making so much noise that residents took his number and called the police.

When the policeman found him at the wheel in Minster Road he was abusive and swung two punches.

The officer fended them off and arrested McGinley.

A test at the police station gave a breath alcohol reading of 94, against the limit of 35.

McGinley had already been referred to a hospital psychiatrist by his own doctor, his solicitor, Alan Bull, told the court.
