A REWARD has been offered to try and track down the "mindless vandals" who damaged play equipment in Droitwich's Lido Park - days after it had been replaced.

Worcester police believe youths were behind the attack on the new multi-play unit in the park, in Worcester Road, Droitwich. between 1.30pm and 1.45pm on Thursday, June 6.

A member of the public spotted youths jumping up and down on the unit and contacted Wychavon District Council, who then contacted the police.

Replaced

The damage, estimated at £500, was done to part of the equipment that had only been replaced a week earlier.

In March, vandals cost the taxpayer £10,000 by setting fire to the same piece of equipment that had to be removed for safety reasons and replaced.

"Although the damage is not as much as before, the equipment was still out of bounds while our contractors fixed it," said Sharon Caswell, Wychavon District Council's client services manager.

Wychavon District Council has offered a reward of £100 for information leading to the conviction of the culprits.

"We refuse to let vandalism affect the quality of services we provide to the community," said Miss Caswell.

"However, it is disheartening that the minority continually want to spoil life in Wychavon for others.

"This constant vandalism has cost taxpayers thousands already and we need their help to stop this anti-social behaviour.

"We urge residents to keep an eye out for acts of vandalism and to report them to police as soon as possible."

"I understand that a call was made to the council reporting youths damaging the equipment," said PC Andy Hall, of Worcester police.

"However, no names or descriptions were given and I would appeal for that person or anyone else with information about the crime to contact me on 01905 723888, quoting c/593074."

Alternatively, information can be given to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
