VANDALS have struck again in Droitwich Spa - this time targeting a town school, brand new play equipment and even killing baby birds.

The culprits left a trail of destruction at the Lido Park and St Peter's First School, just days after the town had enjoyed celebrating the Queen's Golden Jubilee.

Wychavon District Council is now offering a £100 reward to catch the vandals who caused the £500 of damage to equipment at the town park in broad daylight last Wednesday afternoon. Part of the play area had recently been replaced following an arson attack in March when firebugs costs taxpayers £10,000.

Three youths were charged and received a referral order of between five and eight months following the attack. They were ordered to carry out allocated community tasks to make amends for the crime.

Wychavon's client services manager, Sharon Casswell, said: "We refuse to let vandalism affect the quality of services we provide. However it's disheartening that the minority continually want to spoil life in Wychavon for others."

Children who returned to classes at St Peter's First School, off the Holloway, on Monday, were told their school had been attacked during the holiday period.

Between 4.30pm on Tuesday, June 4, and 7.30am the following day, the thugs smashed potted plants, lights, bird boxes and a shed.

Tomato and mustard sauces were thrown over buildings and more than £300 worth of damaged was reported.

School headteacher Jessica Robinson said: "We were very upset. They destroyed the children's jubilee plant pots, flowers being grown to give to the town's elderly and disabled for window boxes and security lights put up with help from parents.

"Our bird boxes were broken and the little chicks were killed. It's absolutely sick. Our ethos is to care for one another and this kind of behaviour threatens that," she added.

Vandals and graffiti artists have plagued the town for some time and in May a group was formed under Wychavon's safety strategy which includes many town organisations trying to solve the problems. The police are investigating both incidents and any information leading to the conviction of the Lido Park attackers could receive a £100 reward.
