IN case anybody was still harbouring any illusions that the European Union has anything other than a federalist agenda - that is the destruction of the member "states" (they used to be called countries) in favour of a European Superstate - then the following may be of interest.

Twenty-six members of the influential European Socialist Party, led by Klaus Hansch and Pervanche Beres, have signed a paper entitled European Project for the Socialists - New Federalism.

This paper, presented to both the European Council and the European Commission, calls for the "creation" - is this Euro-speak for "election"? - of an EU President within the Council and an EU Prime Minister within the Commission. You won't find this reported in the popular Press or on the TV.

But it's yet another example of the federalist activities continuing apace within the EU - the EU that Tony Blair's desperate for us to integrate with to such an extent that we cease to exist as an independent country.
