GHOSTS, curses and love stories will be the order of the day as archaeologist and historian Paul Remfry conducts guided tours of Herefordshire's Goodrich Castle.

The tour will take visitors through the history of the baronial palace, covering its foundation in the early 1100s, through its part in the Civil War and its association with royal families through the ages.

The archaeologist will tell spine-chilling tales of curses and untimely deaths of male heirs to the castle between 1176 and 1245. He will also tell how the screams of those who killed during the Civil Wars can still be heard today on windy nights.

The tours take place at the castle on Sunday, June 23, from 11am to 2.30pm. Entry is £3.60 for adults, £2.70 for concessions and £1.80 for children.

Youngsters under the age of five can enter for free and family tickets cost £9. Entrance is free for English Heritage members, while visitors above retirement age can use the British Gas Help the Aged Partnership's Stepping Out promotional vouchers to receive reduced rates of admission.
