A WORCESTER mother says she fears she could have to give up her job after a city nursery has closed until further notice.

Mandy Carver claims the decision to close Chedworth Drive Nursery indefinitely has left her unable to find care for her two young children.

The single mother, whose three-year-old son Travis and four-year-old daughter Carla went to the Warndon-based nursery, says she could now have to give up her job up because she cannot make alternative arrangements.

She said all 17 parents whose children attended the nursery have been left in the same plight after company owner Terry Dutton closed the nursery's doors on Thursday evening until further notice.

"It's disgusting," she said.

"Because of his actions, I have no one to look after my children which may result in me having to give up my job. My company has been very understanding, but there will come a point where I could have to give my job up if the situation continues.

No warning

"We were not given any warning so we couldn't make any alternative arrangements and finding another nursery is proving to be very difficult.

"We've been told by Mr Dutton there are places at his other nurseries, but I cannot get to them, and frankly, I am quite concerned this could happen at another one of them.

"It was not a responsible way of closing down a business and it has left parents in a very difficult position."

Mr Dutton said he had been forced to close the business after a member of staff walked out on Thursday evening.

However, he stressed all his remaining nurseries in The Kindergarten group - located in Green Hill off London Road, Wakeman Street in Barbourne and Lechmere Crescent in St John's - would remain open.

But added the future of Chedworth Drive remained in the balance.

"It was nothing to do with me it was all about staff,"

he said.

"If the correct number of staff are not present with the children, we would be breaking OFSTED rules if we opened."

In a notice pinned to the gate of the Chedworth Drive nursery, Mr Dutton stated he would be holding meetings with remaining members of staff to decide the future of the site.

But the member of staff, who did not want to be identified, said she had been forced to leave after a dispute about wages.
