CLASSIC dance moves will be resurrected this summer to celebrate the Queen's golden jubilee.

To complement other June events a royal tea dance is being staged in Stourport for more mature revellers who know their way around the dance floor.

It will be held on Thursday, June 6 so it does not clash with the jubilee weekend programme of celebrations and there will be gallons of Britain's national drink on sale to quench dancers' thirst.

"We'll do the old-fashioned dances, like the waltz, two step and tango, and there'll be prizes to people who dress up - in tuxedos and ball gowns," explained Jo Bowkett, civic hall duty manager in Stourport.

"Tea dances are usually quite low-key so we are trying to make this a little bit grander.

"David Floyd, a popular tea dance organist who's got a bit of a following, will bring his own keyboard so there will be live music. We're going to decorate the room and make it a bit special."

The event is being organised by Wyre Forest District Council at Stourport Civic Centre at 2pm and admission will be free.
