I HAVE just read the report of the council meeting about the proposal to change the use of Northwick Lodge.

First, Councillor Jo Hodges mentions discriminating against women and children, who have no changing facilities.

I have lived in Geneva Close for 41 years and cannot bring to mind any time when I have seen a women's team, of any sort, use the field.

As for children, they would seem to have few inhibitions about discarding clothing in public.

Urinating behind trees may not sound pleasant, but some countries seem to have a policy of urinating in public - never mind the trees - and nobody has died from it.

Second, Coun Denham calls the Lodge a Victorian facility. If it is, that's not detrimental, as it caters for the needs of the local population - the dog walkers, children and grandchildren, amateur sports people et al - why should it be considered necessary to change it to a 21st Century sports facility?

It's a recreation area, taken over on Saturdays and Sundays by shouting, swearing youths and men, who leave litter around and congest the Northwick Road with their cars. There has to be a more suitable area for them to disport themselves.

If these plans are ever passed, then it would say very little for democracy, and consideration of public opinion.

Might I suggest to Coun Hodges that a perfectly adequate reason for refusing to pass the plans is the objections raised by the people who live in the vicinity of Northwick Lodge.

P NEAL,

Worcester.
