WHO can expect the support of the Independents? Councillor Mike Layland (You Say, May 11) repeats the Independents' mantra of "people first".

So, which residents of Worcester can look forward to the support of the Independents?

Could it be those council tenants who want to hold a ballot on the future of the city's housing stock?

No, the Independents voted against giving tenants that chance. Perhaps it was the thousands of people who petitioned the city council to help the city's football club and include a B&Q in the Council's emerging Local Plan?

No, they voted against that as well. It might be those shoppers who wanted to use a supermarket in St John's? No, they did not support that either. It could be those bus users who value a bus journey in an uncluttered bus lane?

No, they want to cram bus lanes with other wheeled vehicles.

Maybe it is residents in Ronkswood and Dines Green who are fearful of crime and might have benefited from Labour's modest proposals to include extra money for community safety in this year's Council Budget?

No, they failed to vote for that either. It could even be the many people that wanted the chance to attend a new NHS dental practice in Beech Avenue.

No, Councillor Layland voted against the planning application that could have made that possible.

Your readers may therefore wonder who are the people who always come first with the Independents.

Holy Trinity Ward,
