FOUR Malvern women are planning to leap from a cliff top in Bristol - attached to a piece of wire.

The extreme fund-raising stunt has been instigated by 47-year-old Katie Johnson to raise money for the Meningitis Research Foundation.

Her daughter was whisked into intensive care six years ago after contracting meningococcal septicaemia, the blood poisoning form of the disease.

"My daughter Kashka had it when she was 15 and nearly died," said the interiors mural painter.

"Since then, I've been trying to raise money for the foundation and I've done a couple of sponsored walks and a sky dive."

She will be joined by Sandra Kinloch, Rachael Clifford and Libby Mann to do the fund-raising zip slide on Sunday, May 26, down the 120ft-high Avon Gorge.

Each hopes to raise at least £130 each for the charity.

"It's quicker than abseiling because you have no control at the top, you just go," added Mrs Johnson.

Anyone wishing to make a donation should call Mrs Johnson on 01684 568160.

"It's the sort of thing kids do on the adventure playground but from the top of a

cliff to grass at the bottom."
