THE Royal British Legion held a rally as part of the Ombersley branch's 80th anniversary and the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations.

The rally was organised by the Ombersley branch and a special service was held in a marquee.

Fourteen different Worcestershire branches from the Royal British Legion Group 3 met at Ombersley Court, near Droitwich yesterday.

Mid-Worcestershire MP Peter Luff was present at the rally, following his attendance at the Throckmorton asylum seeker protest earlier in the day.

The Mayor of Worcester, Councillor Robert Rowdon also joined Group 3 branches - Broadheath, Claines, Crowle, Droitwich, Leigh and District, Littleworth and District, Ombersley and Doverdale, Powick and Callow End, St John's and Hallow, and Worcester City at the ceremony.

"It went off very well indeed," said John Hewlett, president of Group 3.

"There were around 60 to 100 people there.

"I must thank Lord Sandys and his wife for letting us use Ombersley Court.

"It was wonderful to see the trees and the grounds, it made the perfect setting for the rally."
