I REFER to D Powell's complaint that he/she has only £90 per week to run a home.
Does this person pay rent, council tax and care charges out of this £90? I suspect that the sum mentioned is the residue after rent, council tax and care charges have been dealt with, either by D Powell or someone else.
I suffer from multiple chest and abdominal troubles. I have an arthritic neck, cataracts are forming on both my eyes, and I am hard of hearing. My arteries are "furred up" making mobility painful. I am 83 years of age.
In addition to the state pension (basic), I have a partial attendance allowance and a small occupational pension.
After payment of rent, council tax, home care charges, sheltering and incredibly, income tax, I also have about £90 left.
I believe that my physical condition is probably, partly due to wartime service. I sometimes encounter hostility, including one contributor to the Evening News correspondence page who referred to me as a "so-called Briton"!
D Powell should count his blessings.
D E MARGRETT,
Worcester.
