MALVERN College 1st XI negotiated the first round of the Chesterton Cup with the minimum of fuss, securing an easy ten wicket win against Hereford Cathedral School on their opponent's picturesque ground beside the River Wye.
The Cathedral School lost their two best batsmen before a run had been scored and never recovered from this disastrous start as Malvern refused to loosen their iron grip.
A total of 50 was grossly inadequate under the circumstances and well though Malvern bowled, with Matt King taking most of the plaudits with figures of 5-11, they were never made to work hard by a Hereford side that failed to muster a score in double figures (that is if you discount the extras which amassed 20).
It took Malvern merely 11 overs to knock off the runs without loss to record one of their easiest cup victories.
Hereford Cathedral School 50 (M Laden 7; M King 5-11, E Latter 2-7, G Vaughan 2-12).
Malvern College 51-0 (C Wood 29no, C Tolchard 13no).
