THOSE of a nervous disposition be warned - The Woman in Black is coming to Malvern Theatres and is not for the faint hearted.

Stephen Mallatratt's adaptation of Susan Hill's novel has been seen by over two and a half million people in the UK and recently celebrated its 5,000th performance at the Fortune Theatre in London's West End.

The play tells the story of a lawyer, beset with a curse that he believes has been cast over him and his family by the spectre of a woman in black. He engages a sceptical young actor to help him tell his story and exorcise the fear that grips his soul. It all begins innocently enough but as they reach further into his darkest memories, they find themselves caught up in a world of eerie marshes and moaning winds. The borders between make believe and reality begin to blur and the flesh begins to creep.

Susan Hill took influences from the classic Victorian ghost stories when writing the original novel, using imagination rather than gore to try and fill the audience with fear.

Robert Demeger takes the role of the lawyer Arthur Kipps, with Timothy Watson as the young actor.

The show runs from Monday, May 27, to Saturday, June 1, at 8pm with matinee performances on Wednesday and Friday at 2.30pm. Tickets start at £10, available from 01684 892277
