A curious incident was reported a century ago by a Gazette correspondent with the pen name Ariel. He described how he was walking along Abbey Road when they saw a rat run out pursued by a robin.
"The rat was persistently pecked, the result being a stiff fight between the pair," said the writer. "During the skirmish the rat came in contact with my boot and then the conflict terminated, the robin being the victor".
