A HANG-glider pilot broke two British records with a flight off the hills above Castlemorton Common, reported the Gazette 25 years ago.
Nigel Milne, aged 26, from Bristol, flew 22 miles and reached heights of more than 5,000ft before landing in Madley, the other side of Hereford, gaining him the UK's height and distance records.
The same day, hang- gliding proved a far less happy experience for Staff Sergeant Richard Stanley, aged 34, of the USAF, based at Upper Heyford.
The unfortunate NCO plunged to earth on Castlemorton Common and was rushed off to hospital suffering from fractured ribs and head injuries.
