Crime from the Mind of a Woman, by Elizabeth George. (Hodder & Stoughton, £18).
THIS selection of 26 crime stories from the most successful female crime writers of all time should keep all crime aficionados happy.
Contributors include Ngaio Marsh, Dorothy L Sayers, Ruth Rendell, Minette Walters and Barbara Paul.
The stories contain locations as diverse as Africa and the Caribbean, London and Los Angeles. Some are contemporary and cutting-edge, while others are set in a particular period.
Well-known sleuths including Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson feature in some. Others are stories of ordinary people caught up in extraordinary events.
And not all the writers would be traditionally associated with the genre - which makes all the more interesting reading.
