ONE of Britain's best loved authors will be in Malvern next month as a guest of the Worcestershire branch of the English Speaking Union.

"Mystery and Mayhem: The craft of the detective story" is the title of the talk by Baroness James, who created the character of Inspector Adam Dalgliesh in Cover Her Face around 40 years ago. Almost 20 books have followed, many of which have been filmed for television.

A big turn-out is expected but there are some tickets left from Nina Thomas, The Shielding, Hanley Swan, Worcs, WR8 OEA. They are £15 for members, £16 for non-members. Cheques should be made payable to ESU and accompanied by a stamped addressed envelope.

Baroness James will also be signing books for sale.
