TWO Corse parishioners were so pleased at the work that had been done by Corse Parish Council to stop the flooding of their homes in Straight Lane that they attended the annual parish meeting to thank councillors for what had been done. The chairman coun Pat Lewis welcomed them, county councillor Will Windsor Clive and district councillor Mary McGhee.

Coun Lewis and coun Richard Padfield continue as chairman and vice-chairman respectively. The vacancy left by the resignation of Mrs Sheila Clift is to be advertised.

In her annual report the chairman said there had been 23 planning applications granted and three refused. There had been wanton damage to two flowering trees and damage to the parish notice board. The trees had been replaced. £100 had been donated to Corse charity and seven parishioners had benefited at Christmas. Councillors Fred Priday and Richard Padfield were thanked for their work on the drainage in Straight Lane and the clerk Norman Davis for pressing the county council, she also thanked the county and district councillors for their attendance and Ursula Groves-Smith, correspondent. A report was read from the police. Speed checks were taking place regularly. Parish councillors felt strongly that the speed limit through the village should be 30mph and 40mph as now. Concern was expressed by Councillor Padfield at the speed of vehicles in Straight Lane where there were no footpaths and it was lethal coming out of house gates straight onto the road. There was a report on the Village Hall, where a smaller scheme is to be undertaken. Councillor Bruce reported 116 children on the school roll and a pond had been created with the help of parents and Paul Bailey. £350 had been donated to Staunton & Corse School toward the cost of Golden Jubilee mugs.
