TWO Hillstone pupils have won their way through to the IAPS National Swimming Finals to be held at Wolver-hampton and Millfield School in June this year, beating some strong competition.

Virginia Barnett demonstrated real determination to fight off some excellent opposition to gain a place at Wolverhampton in the U12 50m Freestyle event and against over 90 other competitors, Rhys Davey won his place in the U11 50m Backstroke event in the boys competition, to be held at Millfield School.

Rhys has had some other success in the swimming pool this year winning a number of gold medals in the 10 year age group at the Worcestershire County Champion-ships including the 200m Individual Medley, the 200m Freestyle and the 50m Freestyle.

LAST weekend Maddy Hurley, Satpriya Marwaha and Alison Crawshaw from Malvern Girls' College, played for the U13 Worcestershire Hockey team in the Midlands Tournament, where they won, taking the Midlands title.

The Worcestershire team finished runners up in their section and played Nottinghamshire, the current champions, in the semi-final and defeated them 2-1. In the final they met Warwickshire in a close match which finished goalless.

The outcome had to be decided on penalty flicks, which Worcester-shire won, to claim the Midlands title.

"The girls had a very exciting day and the final really had everyone on the edge of their seats. The girls played extremely well and we are very proud of their hard work and team spirit," said Mrs Jane Smallwood, Head of PE at the College.

HILLSTONE U11 netball team were recent winners of the IAPS Regional Tournament hosted by Dean Close Prep School, Cheltenham.

In the final stages of this competition the Hillstone team beat Wycliffe Junior School and Berkhampstead School and, in doing so, qualified for the national finals.
