A BOGUS charity collector has been calling at Worcester homes claiming to be from the Princes Trust, police have revealed.

The man who called at a number of houses in Shrubbery Avenue, Barbourne, had no identification, and police do not believe anyone from the charity was collecting in the area at the time.

The man, who called at the houses around noon on Wednesday, May 15, is described as white, aged 20 to 30 years old, of slim build and average height.

He had mousy coloured hair and was wearing a light, possibly grey or fawn, lightweight anorak.

"I would advise anyone who has callers at the door to ask for identification before handing over any money," said PC Mike Stephenson, of Worcester police.

"If you are still in doubt and want to know that the money you give is going to charity, call the charity.

"Do not use the number of any card the caller gives but by looking in the telephone directory or directory enquiries call the charity direct and ask if they have anyone collecting in the area."

Anyone with information about the man collecting in Shrubbery Avenue should contact police on 01905 923888, quoting c/586682.
