HAT-TRICK hero Andy Platt ripped through the Bewdley batting but Stourport still had to settle for a thrilling derby draw in Worcestershire League Division Two.

Platt was in terrific form for Stourport, finishing with figures of 7-49 from a marathon spell of 22 overs and claiming three wickets in a row.

But Bewdley's last-wicket pair of Dean Wilkes and Scott Fowler survived the last seven overs to salvage a draw on 145-9.

Stourport had elected to bat and were soon in trouble at 16-2 but the innings was revived by partnerships between Dave Cook (37) and Neil Bailey (21) then Ian Delo (49) and Neil Wildgust's (27) joint contribution of 65.

Fowler finished with 4-59 and Jason Taylor (3-57) also bowled well as Stourport were dismissed for 193 in the last over.

Their Wyre Forest rivals made comfortable early progress, losing only young Ben Jones at 37 and then skipper Simon Smith (22) at 70.

At 118-4, the picture changed as Platt gained deserved success which culminated in his hat-trick following the dismissal of Charlie Combes (22), while Bevan Neill also bowled tightly.

Mark Bennett earlier made 34 for Bewdley and Paul Edwards hit 23.

Stourport took 15 points and their rivals seven but both remain in the bottom half of the table.

Stourport 193, Bewdley 145-9.

Bewdley seconds inflicted their Stourport counterparts' first defeat of the season with a seven-wicket success.

Asked to bat, Stourport were indebted to opener Bryan Colley who anchored the innings with 79 on a fine track.

But Bewdley's opening attack of John Goodreds (3-37) and Mike Harris ensured wickets fell steadily at the other end until Martin Brewer joined Colley for a century sixth-wicket stand.

Brewer finished unbeaten on 72 as the innings closed on 205-6 with the home side's Mark Guest bowling steadily to keep them in check.

But Stourport went on to drop a series of crucial catches as their total proved too small on such a wicket.

After losing skipper Dave Jones at 31, Bewdley's Pete Mauger, who fell just short of a half-century on 48, was assisted by young Rob Combes (33) in seeing the score past 100.

Andy Robinson (38 not out) and Andy Hartley (50 not out) then took control to ease them home in the 44th over.

They lost just three wickets with two for Stourport's Matt Roberts.

Stourport 2nds 205-6,
