JUBILANT Kidderminster powered to a fine victory at home to county rivals Bromsgrove in Birmingham League Division One.

Mark Mansell and the returning Mandeep Singh crashed 99 and 72 respectively in a 127-opening stand as KCC reached their target of 233 with 10 balls left.

Skipper Sean Lloyd won the toss and asked Bromsgrove to bat against county paceman Chris Liptrot in his first appearance of the season.

Liptrot (1-27) quickly made an impact, striking in the fifth over with Keyte caught behind by wicket-keeper Godfrey Lamb.

KCC's youth policy paid off with Ted Baylis (3-41) taking the next three wickets from the pavilion end.

But Bromsgrove pushed the score along well as opener Nick Davies piled on the runs against his former club.

A change of bowling attack proved the end of Davies (81) as spinner Singh was introduced.

Despite being hit for six, he soon tempted the Bromsgrove man into giving Andrew Siwicki a boundary catch in the 29th over.

Richard Bradford (1-58) bowled another dangerman Duffy for 39 after 69 runs were added in 17 overs.

And Marc Derrick (1-46), called into the side at the last minute despite little bowling experience this season, turned in a good display.

He ran out Evenson to leave their neighbours on 195-7 and then claimed the wicket of Patel.

Singh (2-56) reduced Bromsgrove to their final pair as the visitors, with Barnes not out on 56, set a target of 233 in 55 overs.

The KCC innings started well with Mansell and Singh taking chances and enjoying a fair slice of luck.

Singh reached his 50 by the 20th over and Mansell followed him six overs later.

Bromsgrove made the breakthrough with the score on 127-1 as Singh was bowled for 72.

But stylish batsman Gurdeep Kandola was soon after the runs with KCC making their 200 in the 44th over.

Mansell was bowled one run short of his century after playing out almost two overs without scoring a run.

In the seven overs left, Kandola (41) took over before Bayliss and Bradford knocked off the remaining runs.

Bromsgrove 232-9, KCC 233-4.

The firsts recorded a tremendous three-wicket win at Harborne in the National Knock-out Cup second round on Sunday.

A third-wicket stand of 110 put Harborne on course for a big score but the economical Bradford (1-26) broke up the partnership.

Other wickets went to Jason Hemming (3-60), Joe Hill (1-55) and Mansell (1-62).

Although they faced a big total, KCC started confidently with Mansell and Steve Davies putting on 58 for the first wicket.

Davies (61) and next man in Kandola (74) then produced 127 runs to give the visitors a major platform.

A sound 35 from Bradford and 19 from Nigel Davenport took them through with one over left to the third round on Sunday, May 26, when they host Wheaton Aston.

Harborne 284-5, KCC 287-7.

Despite bowling and fielding well, KCC seconds could not repeat the act when they batted and lost by 28 runs to Moseley.

Hill took 4-31 and Mark Venross 2-93 to keep the Birmingham side down to 167 on Saturday.

But Tom Sherriff (35), Hill (28) and Venross (24) did not have enough support to reach a low target.

Moseley 167-6, KCC 2nds 139.

KCC thirds suffered a 116-run defeat at Knighton in Worcestershire League Division Six.

After asking their opponents to bat, an excellent opening spell from Lee Daniels and Peter Worn restricted the hosts.

Ian Kimberlin took 3-51 and Knighton's 216-7 from 45 overs was within reach.

KCC replied in positive fashion with Andy Logan (25) and Simon Trickett (34) getting them into a good position.

But a middle-order collapse, including a hat-trick for Knighton's James, left the visitors in trouble.

Strong resistance from youngsters Andy Kimberlin and James Thornton offered hope but KCC were bowled out for 100.

Leading bowler Logan will be back with the ball this weekend after recovering from injury.

Knighton 216-7, KCC 100.
