CROPTHORNE racer James Calado had to settle for second place in the latest round of the Mini-Max class in the prestigious BRDC backed Champions of the Future series at Larkhall, Scotland.

Sutton Coldfield's Adam Christ-odoulou was the youngster to take top spot, making it successive wins after taking the spoils in last month's opener.

The young karting ace was on flying form at the South Lanarkshire track, clinching two wins and storming through from last to fourth in his heats, putting him on pole for the final in the class for 11-13 year-olds.

Making a brilliant start the 12-year-old immediately claimed first spot, closely followed by Calado Thomas Duggan and Ian Beaumont and, after five laps, the quartet began to pull clear of the battle for fifth.

By the halfway mark in this 15-lap race the promising Sutton Coldfield star had managed to shake the Vale racer from his rear bumper and pull out a comfortable margin, taking the chequered flag nearly two seconds ahead of Calado, setting the fastest lap.

The Cropthorne youngster said: "This was only my third time out in the Mini Max chassis and the first time I have raced at Larkhall in the new class, so I am really pleased to score another second place and podium finish."

The winner was pleased with his performance: "It was important for me to get a good start here as I knew James (Calado) would be strong opposition," he said.

The next round is at Clay Pigeon in Dorchester on June 22 and 23.

"I am getting faster and faster each time I go out and hope to get to do some testing before the next round," Calado revealed. "I am confident that I can challenge Adam for the Cham-pionship lead."

Provisional Results: 1 A Christodoulou 10.12.41; 2 J Calado 10.14.27; 3 Thomas Duggan 10.21.15.
