MAY I be allowed to respond to H E Hooper's letter in which he stated that speed kills (You Say, May 9,).
It is not speed that kills but inappropriate speed that kills.
A 20mph speed limit may be entirely appropriate near a school during the time children are coming or going to school but totally inappropriate during the rest of the day.
The vast majority of motorists are responsible, law-abiding citizens who have no wish to harm their fellow citizens.
They're being pilloried and subjected to stealth taxes, via the issuing of speeding tickets, sometimes in areas where inappropriate speed limits are imposed by local authorities who bow to pressure groups.
It seems some of these pressure groups would love to go back to the days when a man walked in front of cars with a red flag.
T A JAMES,
Drakes Broughton.
