BARRY Clements guided Evesham to an outstanding Worcestershire County Lea-gue victory at Cookley on Saturday.

Chasing a daunting 238 for victory, Clements scored a superb 96 containing some fine shots mixed with discipline to lead the visitors to a famous win.

Overseas import Warren Irvine struck with the third ball of the day after Cookley had opted to bat on a perfect strip but New Zealander Blakley held the innings together with an unbeaten 98 in his side's 237-4.

Evesham lost two wickets with the target reduced by 18 but Clements and Gary Lewis (36) steadied the ship to set a solid platform for success.

Their strength in batting was illustrated as Mike Granacki maintained the run chase with a splendid knock of 34 before Irvine's swashbuckling cameo was the signal for Clements to hit the winning runs.

Paul Jones slammed 132 the next day but Sunday's friendly against Studley ended in defeat with the visitors winning by nine wickets in pursuit of 197-5.

The club's second string were on the wrong end of another ton at home to Cookley when Evesham replied with 151-4 in response to the visitors' mammoth 258-3. Captain David Higginson top scored with 75.
