A VANDALISED public telephone kiosk is for the chop despite the objections of Bewdley Town Council.

Stephen Clee, Wyre Forest district councillor for Bewdley, had demanded the kiosk on the corner of Richmond Road and Yew Tree Lane be removed after being repeatedly targeted by youths.

Bewdley Town Council felt it should not give in to vandals and had written to British Telecom insisting it be retained.

However, BT payphone account manager Ray Page said: "In this instance the kiosk has been repeatedly targeted and is now so severely damaged that it is now out of service.

"Given the strong local feelings we have reluctantly been forced to agree to the removal."
