MORE than a dozen people are to scale southern Britain's highest mountain to help a wheelchair-bound woman paralysed on her right side.

Between 15 and 20 employees of Kidderminster carpet giant Brintons will climb Mount Snowdon in north Wales on June 30 as part of a campaign to raise £8,500 for stroke victim Sandra Barratt, 41. Matthew Coles and Sandra and Nigel Barratt.

The money will pay for Mrs Barratt - who remains fully aware but needs 24-hour care since a brain stem stroke more than two years ago - to have an extension built on to her Stourport home to allow her to have physiotherapy treatment.

Matthew Coles, a colleague of her husband Nigel, is organising a range of events - that kicked off just three weeks ago - to raise the sum by September.

"They've got three children and the welfare is helping but not for everything they need," said Mr Coles, 32, of Lakes Close, Kidderminster.

"She used to go to Kidderminster Hospital one day a week for physiotherapy, but this stopped because of the difficulty of transporting her backwards and forwards.

"But the NHS will provide the physiotherapy if we provide the area."

He added: "We've already had a quiz night that raised £550 and we're having a golf day on June 11."
