GROUPS in Wyre Forest have shared in a £308,717 windfall aimed at helping voluntary and community groups across the Midlands celebrate the Golden Jubilee.

Winners include Cookley 2000 which netted just under £4,000 for its project to hold a community festival to celebrate life in the village over the past 50 years and the jubilee.

The grant will pay for the hire of mobile stage and PA system; entertainers fees, artists fees and materials, as well as a commemorative book.

Shirley Monger, secretary of Cookley 2000, said they were delighted to receive the cash which would also help fund jubilee-related workshops in Cookley First School.

She said the group had been set up to help mark the Millennium but had been encouraged by residents to continue with its work.

Wolverley High School also scored with a £5,000 grant for a four-day arts festival for young people in Kidderminster.

The grant will pay for the hire of a venue, artist-in-residence fees; transport; costume designers fees and photographic and video documentation.
