A CASHIER at an Evesham petrol station was threatened at knifepoint when he was ordered to hand over cash.

A man entered the Esso filling station in Cheltenham Road at about 3.19am last Saturday (May 11) and threatened the cashier, Stuart Matthews, with a craft knife after demanding money.

"I was a bit awe-struck, I thought 'oh no', said 22-year-old Mr Matthews, of Sedgeberrow.

"He came in and made a comment about it being cold - it was absolutely freezing.

"Then he came towards me and I thought he wanted some fags, but he just pulled out a knife and said 'give us your money', so I handed it over. It was only £70."

West Mercia Police press officer, Kim Stain said: "The cashier was not harmed in any way, but was left extremely shaken by his ordeal.

"We believe that the offender headed off down the Cheltenham Road in the direction of the junction with Fairfield Road. No vehicle was seen."

The robber is described as white, about 6ft 2ins tall and of slim build. He wore a navy blue tracksuit top with a hood pulled right up to his face. He was also wearing navy tracksuit bottoms and might have been wearing fingerless gloves.

DC Dec Hynam of Evesham Police, said: "I would like to speak to anyone in the area at that time and date, and in particular a taxi driver who was driving a blue Honda Accord, who purchased fuel moments before the incident and a male customer who was refused fuel moments after the incident.
