CYCLING: Teenager Liam Preece proved he is in form, racking up another win for Wyre Forest Cycle Racing Club.

The 15-year-old took top junior prize in one hour 14 minutes 38 seconds at the tough Ross-on-Wye 25-mile Mountain Time Trial and was 15th overall.

Team-mate Paul Prince went even further for the 102km road race on Anglesey for two laps of the island.

Prince was thwarted in his attempts to break away from a fast-moving group of more than 50 riders on the first lap.

And the Wyre Forest ace was boxed in as a group drifted off just before halfway though he powered up Parys Mountain to the summit finish, winning the bunch sprint to finish 16th.

Steve Burns motored his way to an impressive 53-50 at the CDCLA 25-mile time trial at Uttoxeter, while Richard Picton broke his personal best by nearly two-and-a-half minutes in 1-02-25.

Wyre Forest's own Jean Baker Memorial Road Race at Astley proved fast on Sunday with the winner covering 52 miles in just over two hours.

Home cyclists Prince and Phil Blacker finished safely in the bunch but the race was marred by an unprovoked road-rage attack on talented teenager Preece (see page 7).

Meanwhile, four riders rode the Royal Sutton CC 10-mile Time Trial at Wythall, near Birmingham.

Chris Poole broke a 30-year-old personal best with 24-24, while Richard Pedersen won the best improvement prize.

Pedersen bettered his best by two-and-a-half minutes to a time of 25-48.

Len Holbeche clocked 22-37 and Tony Richardson 22-58.

Rob Cole beat his best by 10 seconds in the Mid Oxon CRT 25 Mile Time trial at Didcot with a time of 1-01-14.
