SWIMMING: Tough opposition forced Wyre Forest into fifth place in the Nuneaton Junior League Division One meet at Stratford.

Forest, up against top Midlands clubs, achieved two first places, four seconds and four thirds in the races.

There were excellent times and close racing between the nine to 12-year-olds.

Forest's B team finished third in a Division Four meet at Leamington despite not fielding a nine-year-old girls team.

They managed three wins, five seconds and 14 third places.

Thirteen Forest entries managed Midland district qualifying times for July's age-group championships at a Haden Hill open meet.

Trophies were awarded to the top eight in each race in the tough competition which attracted some of the country's top swimmers.

Award winners, girls: J Cook (5th in 11/12y 50m backstroke and butterfly, 6th in open age 100m backstroke and butterfly); Hannah Wear (5th in 13/14y 100m breaststroke, 5th in 13 and under 200m backstroke, 7th in 13 and under 20-m breaststroke).

Boys: Richard Carter (4th in 13/14y 100m butterfly and open age 100m butterfly, 6th in open age 100m freestyle), Nick Carmichael (5th in 13/14y 100m breaststroke and 14 and over 200m breaststroke), Morton (7th in 11/12y 50m breaststroke), Joe Dyer (8th in 11/12y 50m breaststroke).
