THE UNIVERSITY OF THE THIRD AGE - U3A: The Pershore U3A next meets on Tuesday in the Civic Centre at 2pm. Visitors are welcome to join the members to hear Ms Ruth Davies talk on the work of the Citizens' Advice Bureau.

As well as holding meetings of general interest the U3A provides the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge through special interest groups. There are about 20 such small groups in Pershore, all very friendly, covering all manner of interests, activities, hobbies and skills.

If you are over 50 and not in full-time employment then why not come along to see what is going on?

ARP/O50: The next meeting of the ARP/O50 will be held next Wednesday at the Berkeley Arms, Spetchley. The speaker will be Mr Thorold - Hearing dogs for the Deaf. The meeting is 10.30am for 11am. Coffee and lunches are available. Please note the meeting for June 26 will be the AGM an open meeting at the same venue and times.

TOWNSWOMEN'S GUILD: On a dull, damp morning, the chairman welcomed two new members and two visitors to the May meeting of the Townswomen's Guild. She thanked Mrs Herbert and Mrs Beale for their excellent entertainment at the birthday lunch and said that letters of thanks had been received from Mrs S Grantham, Mayoress of Pershore and the two Federation members who had attended the lunch. Mrs Lockhart was delighted to welcome back the president Mrs Bateman, who had been unable to be present for some time, following a fall.

A letter was read from Mrs Dallimore, thanking members for all their support after her recent operation. The chairman announced that she would again be holding Sunday lunches at her home in the Summer, in aid of the Air Ambulance.

Members were reminded of the outing to the Nature in Art Gallery at Twigworth, on May 21, when the coach will leave Broad Street at 1.30pm and Paddock Close at 1.40pm. A number of venues are still being considered for the August outing.

Mrs Elliott gave a brief report on the ramblers' April walk, when they enjoyed a ramble from Twyford on a sunny day. The choir will be rehearsing today and next Thursday, at Mrs J Glazebrook's house and the drama group on Monday at Mrs E Jones' house at 2pm. The Literary Appreciation Group meets again on June 10 to discuss Marie Antoinette by Antonia Fraser.

Members were enthralled by a talk given by Mrs M Hirst, who recounted some fascinating anecdotes from her life as a warden of YMCA homes for boys. Mrs Forrester gave the vote of thanks.

The sales table raised £18.20.

The next meeting will be on June 11 (because of extra Bank Holiday) at Wulstan Hall at 10am when the topics to be debated at the NCM will be discussed, after which the choir will give a short performance.

The sales table will be items from the store cupboard.
