ART GROUP: The group were pleased to welcome two new members to the May meeting at which final arrangements were made regarding the work to be exhibited at the Jubilee Exhibition at the weekend. Details were confirmed of the proposed outdoor painting day scheduled for Friday, July 5. This will be held at Harvington Lock and members should gather at the village hall at 10am on that day preparatory to driving down to the appointed place. The next regular meeting will be held on Friday, June 7 at 8pm. It is proposed to alter the time of future evening meetings, but details will be announced in due course.

SENIOR RESIDENTS' CLUB: Members had a particularly pleasant gathering at their May meeting when they celebrated 35 years of existence, this anniversary coinciding happily with the Queen's Jubilee year. The club was started by Mrs Lucy Bayliss, the mother of the present organiser Mrs Jane Parry, and the connection and the memories are valued by the many members who have had reason to be grateful for the admirable work done by both mother and daughter.

Forty four members were present to enjoy an excellent buffet meal prepared by Jane Parry and Margaret Lewis after which they were entertained by The Morton Farmer, who was accompanied at the piano by Pete Gooder. The two oldest members, Mrs Dorothy Chatterley and Mrs Lily Blythe cut the birthday cake and a presentation was made to the longest-serving member, Mrs Jan Hartiss. Jane Parry then received a bouquet of flowers presented to her by Mr John Salter who thanked her warmly on behalf of all the members. It had been a most successful and enjoyable evening, well spoken of by all who attended.

ST JAMES' CHURCH: It is hoped for a good response from the village to their Jubilee Festival of Hobbies and Crafts which takes place this coming weekend. Many local people will be exhibiting and demonstrating the skills and activities which give them pleasure in their leisure hours and it is hoped that they will be encouraged by the attendance of friends and neighbours who are willing to come and admire what they do and produce. Readers are asked to note the opening times which are: Saturday, 10.30am to 7.30pm; Sunday 11am to 4pm, with a concert by the Harvington Singers on Sunday evening at 7.30pm. Tea and coffee with biscuits and home-made cakes will be on sale both days; admission to the exhibition is free, but it is hoped that visitors will come prepared to make a donation to church funds.
