ONE of the best-known members of Worcestershire's amateur operatic scene has died.
For nearly half a century, Jean Wilson was a familiar figure in productions by Worcester Operatic and Dramatic Society and also worked with similar societies in Malvern, Droitwich, Evesham and Redditch.
Members of those societies joined family and friends for Jean's funeral service at St Barnabas Church, Worcester.
The service was conducted by the Rev Robert Jones and a tribute to Jean's life was given by her step son Robert Wilson.
"Jean was proud and pleased when she would, from time to time, be stopped by a complete stranger in the street and be told, 'thank you for all the happy hours you gave to me and my family. We remember seeing you in...'," said Mr Wilson.
"Jean was always amazed that people had such memories of what she had contributed to the world of local entertainment over so many years and this was, indeed, real proof of her ability and popularity."
Jean, who recently received a 60 Year Award from the British Diabetic Association for her work, died in Worcestershire Royal Hospital aged 76.
