A PREGNANT mum tortured and beaten by her husband has warned other women in her situation to leave before it is too late.

Lizzy Lee, who suffered four years of abuse at the hands of her husband, Jordan, revealed he would probably have killed her if police had not quizzed her about her dreadful life.

Mrs Lee said, like many abused women, she stayed with her husband through fear and believed the beatings were her fault.

She realised her life was at stake when Lee held her head under water and wired her up to a battery charger last November.

Mrs Lee, aged 24, was 10 weeks pregnant. She lost the baby.

A fortnight ago, a judge at Worcester Crown Court jailed Lee for 12 years. West Mercia police said it was one of the worst cases of domestic violence they had seen.

"I know it's hard for women in my position but, even if it's just punching, it's best to leave," she said. "They can see you getting used to the violence, and they'll eventually kill you."

Mrs Lee met the violent 30-year-old, a friend of her brother's, at the age of 20.

The pair married within months, but Lee's vicious streak soon emerged.

The slaps turned into throat-grabbing, punching, and beatings with metal bars, knives and broom handles.

In his final rage - sparked because she had left a bedroom light on - he shoved her head under water in the sink, hit her with a metal bar, and wired her up to a car battery charger.

Lee called an ambulance, but warned her to tell paramedics she had been beaten on the way to buy fish and chips.

They became suspicious, police questioned her at hospital and she told the truth.

"I realised if I was released from hospital, the next beating would be my last," she said.

Mrs Lee, originally from Stourport-on-Severn, has moved away and changed her appearance.

She said she was trying to rebuild her life, but admitted she and her children, aged one and two, found it hard.

"I can't trust anyone, and flinch when anyone quickly moves near me. I might never get over it," she said.

"The children are now more secure as there are no more arguments, but my daughter's been traumatised. He'll see them again over my dead body."
