SIZZLING Stone continued their good early-season Worcestershire League Division Five form with a 133-run win at Bridewell.

Having been asked to bat, Pete Glover and Adrian Blackledge put on 108 runs for the first wicket when the former was out for 42.

Three wickets were lost in quick succession and Stone moved to 116-5 off 33 overs when Blackledge was caught for 77.

But Matthew Tyrrell and Jamie Batsford added 68 runs for the seventh wicket which left Bridewell with a challenging target of 235.

In reply, Ian Tomlinson claimed the first three wickets and, with good support from other bowlers, Bridewell were 41-5 at one stage.

They rallied but Tomlinson (5-13) and skipper Gary Bourke (2-7) proved too much for them and Stone claimed maximum points with 11 overs to spare.

Stone 234-7, Bridewell 101.

Stone lost on Sunday in a friendly against local rivals Victoria and Blakeley Hall who fielded a strong side.

Victoria openers Alex Roden and Kelvin Barrett put on 90 in 18 overs for the first wicket.

Barrett continued to bat well and was eventually run out for 89 as Stone bowled the visitors out for 206.

Simon Drew scored a good 50 for Stone but lost partners at regular intervals in the face of sustained good bowling.

Batsford chipped in with 15 but the home side were bowled out 98 runs short of their target.

Victoria & Blakeley Hall 206, Stone 108.
