DEAR EDITOR - As an allotment tenant at the Roundhill allotment site, I read with interest the reaction of some dog walkers to the recent improvements involving a partnership between Bromsgrove District Council and tenants on the site.

Dog walkers were becoming a nuisance, allowing their unleashed dogs to foul access paths and some to foul allotments. When I approached a dog owner who had watched his dog foul in the front of my plot, he became very abusive and threatening. Not all plots are fenced and even those, which are, do not deter some dogs from jumping over the fencing and running wild on the plots.

The open access to the site seemed to encourage fly tippers who considered the site an attractive location to dispose of garden and domestic waster. Dog walkers have open access to fields and woods nearby but now do not have access to the food growing areas of the allotments and allotment paths.

The installation of a fence by allotment tenants, supported by Bromsgrove District Council has rejuvenated the site, giving further encouragement to new and existing tenants to improve this valued community amenity.

Grower,
