A GROUP of Droitwich students fear they might fail their exams because a Hollywood star was forced to pull out of a crucial theatre performance.

Now the A-level theatre studies and English students at Droitwich Spa High School, in Briar Mill, hope someone will turn in a star performance and help them.

The students were due to watch Oscar-nominated Jude Law in London's Young Vic production of Doctor Faustus on Saturday, April 27.

But the British film star cancelled due to injury.

Now the youngsters are searching for a kind-hearted member of the public to lend them a copy of the 1967 film, staring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton.

The play, by Tudor playwright Christopher Marlowe, concerns a man who does a deal with the Devil. Doctor Faustus is on the syllabus for both theatre studies and English A-level.

Eighteen-year-old Karen Bailey, a student, said: "We were really looking forward to seeing this play. We're studying it for our A-Level, and to be able to comment on it in our exam, we need to see a performance.

"We're getting desperate as our exams are only a few weeks away."

A group of students had arranged tickets at London's Young Vic Theatre to see the play before their exam in June.

But when they arrived at the theatre, 90 minutes before curtain-up they found it had been cancelled.

More than £600 had been spent on the trip.

The Young Vic has promised to refund tickets and travel expenses.

If anyone has a copy of the film they could lend or sell to the students they can contact the school on 01905 774421.
