REDDITCH athletes will be going for gold at the Midlands' biggest championship event for people with disabilities this week.
Leanna Horne, 14, of Arrow Vale Community Sports College, will compete in the shot category in the npower active Regional Athletics Competition at Birmingham Alexander Stadium from 10am on Sunday.
A total of 12 members of Redditch Special Olympics are also set to take part in the competition.
There will be 73 participants from eight clubs and schools across the county, including Sydney Para-Olympics 100m and 200m bronze medallist Richard White, from Bromsgrove.
And a record turnout of 450 athletes with physical, learning and visual disabilities are expected at the event, organised by the West Midlands branch of the English Federation of Disability Sport and supported by Birmingham City Council's Leisure and Culture Department and npower.
