REDDITCH bounced back from their opening day defeat with a five wicket win over Pelsall inspired by an old hand and one of the club's rising stars.

Captain Nev Mason played his first game of the season after suffering whiplash in a car accident and reaped the rewards with six wickets for 35 as Pelsall were bowled out for 99.

And 16-year-old Richard Young opened the batting with a mature performance to claim 58 and set the hosts on their way to a comprehensive win.

Mason soon took a wicket then Ben Davis removed the dangerous Assad for 13 and wicket keeper Clarke and John Lostitch took two wickets in one over.

With the captain removing opposite number Chris Green for 44 the Pelsall innings fell away to 99 all out.

Mason took 6-35; Davis 2-17 and Lostitch 2-27.

In reply openers Richard Young and Dan Protherough put on 26 for the first wicket, then Young playing a gritting innings of 58 saw the score to 93 before being bowled, enabling Redditch to claim victory by five wickets in 37 overs and ensure 20 points.

Regular opener Chris Gibson is available for selection at home to Shifnal on Saturday (1pm start) but could face a tough task dislodging young pretender Young.
